Providing clean water is becoming an increasingly important task for FuMA-Tech. Material separation, as a basic operation in chemical engineering, has become a central technological platform.
Particularly membrane separation, which is an innovative separation process, is the most important basic operation. In membrane filtration processes such as reverse osmosis for water desalination or ultrafiltration for water treatment and sterilisation, the water to be treated is forced through a membrane by applying pressure. The membrane then retains the components that are not wanted.
However, membranes can be applied in other forms of technology: water can be broken down into its basic elements, namely hydrogen and oxygen, in a membrane electrolysis cell by applying an electrical current. This form of water splitting is a completely reversible reaction whereby water can be re-produced from the gases while energy is generated.
Water is the basis of all forms of life while energy additionally ensures a high quality of life.
