Market for stationary applications

In stationary applications, for example in fuel cell combined heat and power stations for residential homes, hydrogen is produced on-site from natural gas, biogas or liquid gas by reforming. One major obstacle to the successful marketing of these units is the issue of reliabilty of these very complex systems. The compulsory minimum long-term stability of 40 000 hours puts the greatest demands on the materials used. Market volume for membrane electrode assemblies is expected to be roughy 620 million USD from 2013 onwards.
