New membrane trends

Only recently have catalysts free of precious metals become available for direct methanol fuel cells. This development could open up a new market for FuMA-Tech for its existing alkali-resistant, anionic membranes of the type fumapem FAA. Numerous clients, engaged in portable applications for fuel cells, have been supplied with these membranes. Furthermore, the fumasep FBM bipolar membranes, which have been known for a long time and are also protected by patent, have been successfully tested for operation in fuel cells.

Current new developments for applications in the low-performance range involve alternative liquid fuels such as ethanol, formic acid and other non-toxic and non-explosive liquids. FuMA-Tech also supplies new membranes for these purposes. Products from the range of Redox batteries, which can be advantageously regenerated by solar or wind power and compete with direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) in the market, can also be supplied.
